Councillors in Dun Laoghaire want to explore the possibility of installing solar-powered, glowing cycle paths in the area.
These illuminated lanes are currently being trialled in Lidzbark Warminski in northern Poland, with the aim of helping to prevent cycling accidents at night.
Its pavement is made with solar charging ‘luminophores’ which absorb sunlight during the day and can emit light for up to 10 hours during periods of darkness.Â
According to Irishtimes.com, the chief executive for Dun Laoghaire council will investigate if the construction of similar glowing bicycle lanes is feasible for the south Dublin area.
