There’s always feckin’ something.
No sooner had Metallica announced that they’ll be headlining Slane next year, fellow 80s icons The Cure have also confirmed a huge outdoor gig in Ireland.
“Two great bands, so what are yez complaining about?”, says you. Oh nothing, except for the fact that both gigs will take place on the SAME DAY – Saturday June 8 2019.
The band, fronted by Robert Smith, took to to Twitter to give Irish fans ‘a save the date’, much like a panicked bride and groom when they realise someone else has nabbed their wedding date.

It seems that people aren’t happy that they are being forced to choose…
The Cure and Metallica are both playing June 8th? Are you having a LAUGH

Metallica and The Cure both playing June 8th… who’s genius idea was it to have them both play the same date ????????

Fuck it anyway. Metallica announced for Slane 2019 and then The Cure announce for the same date.
I have missed tickets, been out of the country etc.. so it’s been almost 30 years since the last time I went to see The Cure, and it would be rude to miss them again.#thecure— Tom Keogh (@funnyzombieguy) September 25, 2018
I feel personally attacked by Metallica and The Cure playing on the same day tbh

The rumour swirling around is that The English group have chosen Dublin’s Royal Hospital Kilmainham as the venue for their show which will take place simultaneously to the Metallica one over 50 kilometres away.
Decibel levels will be through the roof around Dublin and Meath that night, that’s for sure. Tickets for Metallica go on sale this Friday but we will have to wait on further details about The Cure gig.
