UK Singer Tweets That She Thought Dublin Was The Capital Of Northern Ireland

James Fenton

If there’s one thing Brexit has taught us (and it hasn’t taught us much) it’s that some our friends across the water could do brushing up on their knowledge of Ireland.

There have been plenty of comments, both inside and outside the House Of Commons, that would indicate that some so-called experts would struggle to pick us out on a  map, let alone know anything about us.

One such person appears to be British singer Sarah Close who was taking part in a Brexit-themed pub quiz (that’s a thing?) today.

The Call Me Out star posted a tweet which says: ‘Hi…tweeting from the interval of a brexit themed pub quiz… Team is currently in 6th… Just won us 7 bonus points in deal or no deal… We lost a whole round by answering Dublin as the capital of northern island… Regained respect by knowing M&S came from Leeds I’m stressed’

We’re sure she means Northern Ireland and not ‘northern island’. To be fair, every single one of us has gaps in our general knowledge which may raise sniggers from others but it’s always a good idea to think twice before posting such gaps on social media. It can be quite an unforgiving place.

Now you know, Sarah.
