7 Food Pairings That Work Wonderfully With The World’s Only ‘Wild Lager’

seank

If you’re something of a connoisseur when it comes to beer, there’s an entirely new style of lager to get excited about: Wild Lager.

The limited edition H41 Wild Lager by Heineken was created by master brewer Willem van Waesberghe from a wild ‘mother’ yeast discovered in Patagonia.

Heineken has over 150 years of experience in brewing and their experts have stumbled upon a distinctive new flavour with H41, offering a fuller taste, with spicy notes balanced by subtle and fruity hints.

Luckily for lovers of intriguing new brews, there are plenty of bars around Dublin where you and like-minded mates can be introduced to the Wild Lager: O’Donoghue’s, The Bowery and Harry’s On The Green to name but a few.

And if there’s one thing we all love with a good drink, it’s good food.

To help you discover new taste possibilities with H41, we’ve put together a list of food pairings that work wonderfully with the Wild Lager…

1. Manchego Cheese

Wild Lager goes well with a variety of cheeses. The beer manages to stay fresh and doesn’t overpower the cheese.

2. Fenugreek cheese

This mature cheese has a great structure and gorgeous saltiness. Being herby, spicy, nutty in flavour, and coming with a certain a bite to it, Fenugreek makes for a pleasant combination with H41.

3. Smoked sausage

Lightly smoked sausage combines well with the bitterness in the beer.

4. Cremeux de Bourgogne

This very soft and creamy cheese works beautifully with H41, especially on melba toast. When using it in a salad, try using lemon instead of vinegar.

5. Chorizo

If the chorizo is a bit dry, it’ll be a great match with the spicy, herby notes of the Wild Lager. For an even better combination, smoke the chorizo.

6. Chocolate 60% Cacao

Chocolate with such a high percentage of cacao can be bitter, but it has the perfect amount of sweetness to pair with H41. It gives the beer a lift, enhancing the sweet and spicy flavours, complementing the beer’s bitterness.

7. Peanuts

It’s a bar counter classic for a reason, you know. While salted peanuts are tasty with the beer, you’ll notice that dry-roasted peanuts work far better as your nibbles of choice.
