This week we decided to cast our city spotlight on O’Connell Street, one of the most historically important streets in the capital. O’Connell Street served as a prominent backdrop to monumental events including the Dublin Lockout gatherings, the 1916 Rising and the Irish Civil War to name a few. It boasts some of Dublin’s most iconic monuments including the statues of Daniel O’Connell, James Larkin and William Smith O’Brien. It’s also home to the now iconic Dublin Spire, the world’s largest sculpture.
We think that even if you’re a local it’s worth taking part in one of the walking tours of the street to discover even more of the history around O’Connell Street which helped shape our country.
