On a recent weekend voyage to Howth, I stumbled upon (and when I say stumbled I mean I literally sprinted to get out of the lashing rain) the most adorable tea room ever.
If you’ve ever been in the mood for a fancy pot of tea and some cream cakes in Howth village, then you’ll realise I’m talking about the lovely Marie Louise Tea Rooms.
Nestled in along a row of cafes overlooking the harbour, Marie Louise’s is like being transported right back to your Granny’s sitting room – except waaay nicer.
It’s pretty small, and seemingly always busy, so you may have to wait a little while for a seat, but trust us, it’s worth it. You’ll soon snuggle in to the cosy atmosphere and there’s nothing nicer than sipping on a hot cup of tea as you look out at the swishing sea.
They serve an afternoon tea fit for a #queen, served in bone china cups and saucers, and delicate petit fours and finger sambos.
If all that fresh sea air has your stomach rumbling, then Marie Louise’s will have you stuffed in no time thanks to their more filling options.
Choose from sweet or savoury pancakes, brioche French toast, Eggs Benny or the holy grail: the Monte Cristo – a ham and melted cheese sandwich dipped in egg and finished in the pan. Mmmm.
They also have wines – including prosecco if you’re feeling like a bitta fizz – so this place isn’t only for teetotalers.
