Michaella McCollum of the ‘Peru Two’ was interviewed by RTÉ on April 3, and it certainly got the nation talking.
Following her arrest for attempting to smuggle €2 million worth of cocaine through Lima’s airport, the Tyrone woman spent two-and-a-half years in a Peruvian prison. Having just been released, but still unable to leave the country, RTÉ sent a correspondent to perform an interview with the newly liberated 23-year-old.
The Irish public had a mixed reaction to the programme to say the least. Some felt that the interview was far too soft, that it was overly sympathetic to a convicted criminal, while others were merely fixated on McCollum’s change in hairstyle…
Interview approach worse than my hairstyle but ultimately she’s ruined her own life, won’t reoffend & danger to nobody. #MichaelaMcCollum

Woman in Ibiza knew nothing about drugs. In other news, a man came home from Rome today and said: “Catholicism? What?” #MichaelaMcCollum
