9 Things To Do That Are Better Than Pints In The Pub

clodagh

Pints are a beautiful, beautiful thing, but they can get a bit monotonous.

Sure, they give you an entertaining evening and a tolerable hangover, but don’t you want more from your life?

Spice up your after work drinks and go beyond pints.

Think bigger, think better.

1. Silent disco

After a long day in the office, sometimes the last thing you want to do is talk to people. A silent disco is a perfect way to socialise with your friends, without actually doing any socialising.
Whelans have a deadly one every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for you to sing your heart to.

2. Salsa lessons

Get those hips moving with a few classes with Salsa Dublin. They offer drop-in classes for all levels, and you can treat yourself to post dance drinks with your salsa buddies.

3. Table Quiz

So this may technically still take place in a pub, but this is way better than ordinary drinks. Quizzes are the perfect way to bring out everyone’s competitive side, and to see how much – or little – you really know.

Mother Reilly’s in Rathmines do a great pub quiz that’s free in every Tuesday night, and Workmans are known to put on ‘aul quiz or two.

4. Karaoke

Karaoke can make or break a person. In most cases, it shames them into oblivion, which only makes for great viewing for the rest of us.

Ukiyo has rooms dedicated for karaoke, at really reasonable rates.

5. Live music

Always a good call; whether it’s trad music or some jazz from the International Jazz Bar

Gather a group of friends for a cultured evening of drinks and music.

6. Board games

Board games are more than a way to cause irreversible family trauma, and there’s no better place to test this theory than in P Macs.

Don’t blame me if you lose a friend over them, though.

7. Cooking classes

Learn how to make your own delish enchiladas at a Mexican cooking class in Picado. After cooking, the class eats the food together, along with whatever beer or wine you brought with you.

8. Comedy night

If you go along to a comedy night at Jester’s Comedy Club (which runs every Wednesday), you’re guaranteed a laugh.

And if you don’t laugh, you get your money back. Yes, really.

9. Wine tasting

A tad more expensive, but so worth it. La Cave does a great wine testing session, which includes a platter of cheese and salami to help cleanse your palette. Yum.
