My mother once walked into a hotel bar in West Cork, and placed a fairly straightforward order: two glasses of wine for herself and my dad, and two oranges for 10-year-old me and my young sister.
Of course, rather than the two bottles of Fanta we were expecting, the waitress emerged carrying two pieces of fruit – two oranges in the most literal sense – and the story instantly became one of those hilarious examples of a communications breakdown when placing an order.
This week, however, a hotel in England outdid this old Coughlan classic; when a lady asked for cheese and biscuits, she ended up receiving something entirely different.
If you need cheering up, here’s a photo of the time my stepmum asked for cheese and biscuits at a hotel. ???????????? pic.twitter.com/WZTnrYdtb6

Trust me: you couldn’t make this stuff up.
