The weekend is here again and you intend to brave it without alcohol. A ballsy move.

But don’t worry, we’ve got your back as usual. Check out the six wholesome activities we’ve hand picked for you to try out this weekend…

1. Waiting For Godot

Here’s one for all you culture vultures, check out Waiting For Godot at Smock Alley. One of Samuel Beckett’s most popular works, the play follows Vladimir and Estragon as they wait endlessly for the arrival of Godot, discussing religion, contemplating suicide and crotch rot in a comical wordplay of poetry, dreamscapes and nonsense. The show will take place tonight and tomorrow night at 7.30pm in Smock Alley, with a Saturday matinee taking place at 2.30pm.

2. Ratha Yatra Ireland

Experience culture of the more exotic sort with Ratha Yatra. This is a colourful and vibrant public festival that dates back thousands of years to ancient India. It features a huge chariot pulled by hand, accompanied by music and dancing, culminating in a fun-filled afternoon of stage shows and exhibitions as well as a free, sumptuous vegetarian feast. So veg-heads, take note.

3. Vinyl & Wine Presents: Back To Black

Okay, we’ll admit that anything with the word “wine” in the title probably shouldn’t be in Ditch The Drink, but if you trust your own self-control then this event is well worth checking out.

As we mentioned earlier, the Vinyl & Wine series returns with a special playing of Amy Winehouse’s iconic album ‘Back to Black’ on high quality vinyl and on a special sound system. There will also be a panel at the event discussing the late songstress, which will include Universal Music Ireland’s MD, Mark Crossingham, along with TXFM’s Dee Reedy, who recently interviewed Amy Winehouse’s first manager, Nick Shymansky.

The event will take place at The Liquor Rooms this Sunday at 5.00pm, and you can get your tickets here.

4. The Lost Fashion Tours

One for the fashionistas. The Lost Fashion History of Dublin Tours are a unique series of tours which explore Dublin’s stylish past. Fashion historian Ruth Griffin (of the blog Rua Ruth) will bring you on a stroll through the centuries to discover the style of the different quarters of Dublin. On the tour, you’ll learn more about the places where our most important fashion designers lived and worked, about our trendsetting residents and the histories behind the city’s premier shopping streets, Georgian squares, rag-trade and textile districts.

The next tour takes place tomorrow and will begin on Grafton Street, tickets are €12 and you can find them here.

5. The Goonies At The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse Cinema’s Films You’d Love Your Kids To See series continues with this screening of The Goonies. The ’80s kids classic follows a group of friends trying to save their homes from being demolished, but they discover an old treasure map from the legendary One Eyed Willie in the process, and they must do battle with the weirdest family in America for the hidden treasure.

If you’re interested in catching the Steven Spielberg gem, you can see it tomorrow at 3pm or 10.30pm and you can get your tickets here. Pirate outfits and truffle shuffles encouraged.

6. Janoskians & Guests

Finally, here’s one for all of you who enjoy a quality giggle. The Janoskians are a Melbourne comedy group that found fame on YouTube, and now they’re taking their shenanigans to the stage with their ‘Untold and Untrue’ concert tour. This semi-true story about the origins of the hugely successful Australian pranksters follows the Janoskians’ journey towards their ultimate goal of performing at Wembley Arena. The mockumentary takes fans behind-the-scenes to follow Beau, Luke, Jai, James and Daniel, as they come together, fight, makeup and perform their biggest hits.

The comedians will perform their new show this Saturday and Sunday in The Academy at 7pm, tickets are €31.50 and you can get them here.
