Sunday Fear, be gone!

Bridgehouse1

There's no better way to beat the Fear than by taking a weekend break in one of the many amazing hotels and spa resorts dotted around the country.

But while many of these are inaccessible to those without cars, we've picked a selection here that are easily accessible by public transport.

And hey. Even if you don't make it away, you can still enjoy these mouthwatering pics...

Heritage Golf and Spa

Portarlington, Co Laois

Amazing service, fantastic grounds and generally luxurious surrounds, this is as good a weekend break as you'll get in this country. It's barely an hour outside the city on the M7, and better again it's within a stone's throw of the Portarlington train station – so you don't even need a car.

Castle Dargan Hotel

Ballygawley, Co Sligo

Golf may not be for everyone, but an expansive course makes for some excellent walks – and this fantastic construction, set inside one of the most beautiful counties in Ireland, will really allow you to get away from it all. A bit more of a trek by car – but the Sligo train leaves regularly from Connolly, and the hotel is easily accessible from there.

Knockranny House Hotel

Westport, Co Mayo

Sure, it's on the other side of the country, but the train will drop you straight into Westport and it's all rather simple from there. Straight away, you're into one of the most picturesque parts of the country – and the pool alone is worth the nationwide trip.

Lyrath Estate Hotel

Kilkenny

More modest grounds than some others on the list, but once you see the incredible interior you probably won't want to go outside anyway. To top that, you're just a stroll away from Kilkenny city, one of the best cities/towns (let's not get into this...) for eating and drinking in the country.

Dunboyne Castle Hotel

Dunboyne, Co Meath

They don't get much closer to the big shmoke than this – and yet, at the same time, you'll feel like you're a million miles from all your urban woes once you make the short trip to Co Meath.

Bridge House Hotel

Tullamore, Co Offaly

No grounds to speak of here, but smack bang in the centre of a town that's great for pubs, great for whiskey and great for access – both the Galway and Westport trains serve Tullamore station, and it's just over an hour from Heuston.

Seafield Golf and Spa Hotel

Ballymoney, Co Wexford

Another one that's just an hour's drive from Dublin, or within easy reach of Gorey train station on the main Dublin-Wexford line. Ballymoney, known to many a Dub for its holiday homes, boasts some of the finest beaches in the country – and the Library Bar here is the most happening venue in the area since the Orphan Girl Disco was at its zenith.
