This Irish guy may just have your dream job, as he has made more than one million euro by travelling the world.
Born in Galway and raised in Northern Ireland, Johnny Ward has studied, worked, volunteered and backpacked around more than 100 countries around the world since he left Ireland in 2006.
The 31-year-old professional traveller says:
I wasn’t from a rich family, had no wealthy benefactors and don’t sell my body from continent to continent to allow me to live like this! I redesigned my lifestyle, started a business from my laptop, and have loved every day since, you can do it too..”
Right after finishing university, where he studied international economics, Ward went to work at a summer camp in the US and caught the travel bug. This lead him to teaching English in Thailand, before taking up the backpacking which would go on to become his life.
Ward’s lifestyle was made possible by his travel blog OneStep4Ward (earning him tops marks for wordplay), which began as a simple diary of his travels before it started to attract attention from advertisers.
From there, he started his own digital media company called Step4Ward Media, which specialises in guest posting, blog creation and management and content marketing. All in all, Ward says this has allowed him to work just 10 to 20 hours a freakin’ week and become millionaire for his troubles.
The entrepreneur now spends around 9 or 10 months a year travelling, and calls Bangkok home when he does manage to take a break.
If you’re not happy, a good salary isn’t progress, it’s financial prison. Life is meant to be lived, not sold to the highest bidder. Social conformity, the media, our education systems dictate that we should go to school, go to uni, go to a city, work in an office, save for a retirement that we’ll be too old to enjoy. Personally, I don’t want to do that. Not one bit. I wanna live now, today so I make sure I do exactly that. Every single day.
