Introducing The Irish Internet Heroes of 2015

katedemolder

So it’s no surprise to any of us that Ireland is comprised fully of messers and gas characters, but it’s when the eclectic race of people that we hold so dear get put together on camera – that the whole country shuts down to have a gawk.

And 2015 was no different.

Everything from dodgy accents to marriage referendum chats were touched upon this year, all with hilarious twists. Here are some of the best.

1. Ruairí McSorley

Otherwise known as ‘Frostbit Boy’, Ruairí became an internet sensation after his brief, but powerful, stint on the UTV news in January.

The Derry man’s accent wins the hearts of many, and the laughs of others – so much so that he actually made an appearance on The Saturday Night Show with Brendan O’Connor. Good man. Ruairí.

2. Cian Twomey

Love him or loathe him, he certainly made an impression on your 2015.

Encapsulating his lovely girlfriend Emily, by flipping his hair to one side and raising his voice an octave higher – he has very much hit the nail on the head when it comes to sassy Irish females, and been hilarious in the process.

3. Foil, Arms & Hog

Three gas lads who know exactly who they are in terms of comedy. They’ll have you in tears.

4. Clisare

Clisare has been around for a while now with her first video being the excellent ‘Shite Irish Girls Say’, but it’s this year that she has really branched out as a Youtuber, covering everything from her Irish Bucket List to swearing as Gaeilge.

5. Riyadh Khalaf

Riyadh, a Dublin Youtuber, first gained traction earlier this year by letting his mum read his Grindr messages, and then gained global recognition when he called up Shirley Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church back in April.

Ballsy move by a very ballsy character.

6. Martin’s Life

Not exactly a person per se – but this Youtube series follows the non-adventures of returned emigrant Martin as he struggles to adjust to life back in Ireland. He has moved in with his parents ‘for the time being’.

A hilarious watch and must-see for anyone who has any affiliation with Ireland.

7. This guy

We’ve all been there – behind a truck going mad and wishing we could overtake. The vast majority of us will just sit there and take it, and that’s exactly what this guy should have done outside Slattery’s in D4.

Instead, though, he tried to pull a fast one, and his timing couldn’t have been more sweet.

Impatient driver, meet… unmarked Garda car.

8. The biggest dad of all the dads

When Evan Griffin gave his dad, Joseph, a lend of his GoPro to take with him and his wife on a trip of a lifetime to Vegas, never did he think that he would spend the whole time filming his own face rather than that of the sights of Sin City.

But that’s exactly what he did, take a bow Joseph.

9. #IREvsGER boy in the Aviva

Just before the game that made us love Shane Long more than we possibly ever knew we could, an 11 year old chancer named Eoin O’Dwyer from Mullinahone felt the need to get his 5 seconds of fame in – and that he did.

A fine match for the people of Tipperary.

10. The Holly Holm serenader

It seems the country is made of chancers (not that we didn’t know that already), but now the whole world does as this chap vocalised his feelings towards the attractive athlete.

Good man, yourself.

11. Panti Bliss

Although Panti may have burst onto the scene before this year, it is absolutely no doubt that 2015 was, for sure, the year of the Panti.

With the marriage referendum, The Queen of Ireland being released and Pantibar going from strength to strength – Ms. Bliss became not only an Irish sensation, but a global phenomenon. And we couldn’t be more proud.

12. Teresa Mannion

How could we complete this list without referencing Miss Irish Weather 2015?

Mannion braved Strom Desmond to inform the people of Ireland to not take unnecessary journeys – but thanks to the literally dozens of remixes, we already all know that.

Teresa, the good sport, took it all on the chin, and laughed her way to internet stardom. Go on, you good thing!

13. Sminky Shorts

These lads came back with a bang this year with World Cup related videos that would make your gran cry laughing.

Proving once again that there’s really nothing funnier than an animal with a Cork accent.

14. These Dublin lads

These little brats drove around The Kingdom only to torment locals about their loss.

Asking around to see if anyone has seen Sam – Sam Maguire that is.

15. John & Michael Boyle

The two lads, of Actium film productions, hit the nail on the head when trying to vocalise what Summer in Ireland is like.

Spot on, lads.

16. The Riverdancing Parrot

Yep, that did happen.

And no, it wasn’t just a dream.

17. And finally, Pioc Do Ride’s Casanova

This guy appeared on a TG4 blind-dating show, aptly named Pioc Do Ride and made the coldest decision ever made on Irish television.

The twist of the show is that the decision is based entirely on the cars of contestants, before they even get to see each other in the flesh. Have a look above to see this guy’s stone cold climatic decision on the most recent episode…
