30 people were injured during a massive pillow fight recently at the US Military Academy, West Point.
An annual tradition for cadets at the prestigious school, this year’s pillow fight turned bloody after several freshman started filling their pillow cases with hard objects.
During the out of control clash of pillows, two dozen cadets received concussions. While the event took place on August 20, with photos and videos circulating online since, officials at West Point have only confirmed that the event took place in the last few days.
According to The New York Times, first-year students, or ‘plebes’, organise the pillow fight as a way to build camaraderie after a gruelling summer of training at the university.
West Point spokesman Lt. Col. Christopher Kasker said:
West Point applauds the cadets’ desire to build esprit and regrets the injuries.
An investigation is now underway into the incident, no one has yet been punished.
