9 Chocolate Desserts In Dublin You Absolutely Have To Try Before You Die

Dkelly

Everyone loves chocolate.

For those of you who claim you don’t we just want to know one thing – who hurt you? Seriously.

Everything tastes better with chocolate, even chocolate itself. And sometimes you have to just treat yo’self, so when that time comes, you want to make damn sure that those calories are working damn hard for you.

These are the most epic chocolate creations that Dublin has to offer and they are guaranteed to send you spinning into a sugar-induced coma of happiness.

1. Protein Banana Stack @ Pog

Unbelievably, this mouthwatering feast isn’t totally unhealthy. You get to build your own protein banana pancake stack by choosing whatever toppings you like – and they’ve a fantastic selection of extras available including nuts, biscuits, fruits, yogurts, and whatever you’re having yourself.

We like ours with copious amounts of ‘cleantella’ and berries. Mmm…

2. Crunchy Coco Pops French Toast @ San Lorenzos

The ‘Brunch of Champions’ at San Lorenzos is a fun time: great music, delicious food and a lively atmosphere. It’s the perfect way to cure a hangover on a Sunday morning.

More importantly though, their crunchy coco pops French toast is an absolute revelation. It comes with salt caramelised bananas, peanut butter, mascarpone whipped cream and Belgian chocolate sauce. I’m just going to call it now: this is the unicorn of the Dublin brunch scene and it will make all of your wildest dreams come true! FACT*.

*May or may not actually be a factual statement.

3. Caramel Fudge Soft-Centre Brownie @ Vintage Cocktail Club

Come for the cocktails but stay for the desserts! Indulging in comfort food is the perfect way to top off an evening of sipping on cocktails and VCC know their audience. They have an ‘Aftermath’ section on their menu full of food that will more than satisfy your sweet tooth. Their caramel fudge-soft centre brownie is served with vanilla ice-cream is simply to die for!

4. Brownies @ Brother Hubbard

These guys are making some of the best desserts in the city right now but they are especially known for their brownies which are simply out of this world. They’re constantly experimenting with new flavours, these ‘gloriously gooey peanut butter and jam brownies’ would definitely be considered one of their greatest hits.

You’d almost be suspicious about the true ingredients of these babies because they’ll leave you feeling so giddy and light-headed. (Note: They are actually legal. Please don’t sue us.)

5. Organic Raw Snickers Cake @ Lo-Cal Kitchen

Guilt-free can often mean taste-free when it comes to desserts, but Lo-Cal have it down.

Don’t leave without trying their organic raw Snickers cake – baked using raw organic coconut oil, cacao, cashew butter, maca powder, almond flour, honey, vanilla, pitted medjool dates and toasted cashew nuts. Free of both gluten and dairy, this one is a crowd-pleaser.

6. Chilli Chocolate Tart @ KC Peaches

KC Peaches have a fantastic selection of desserts at their baked goods counter. I especially love their Chilli Chocolate Tart. The sweet and spicy flavours blend together perfectly to give you a rich, creamy pie with a kick.

They’ve got several city centre cafes so you’ve no excuse not to pop in. NONE.

7. Chocolate Fondue @ WhiteFriar Grill

Indulge yourself with their spectacular chocolate fondue – a pot of molten goodness, served with peanut butter fudge, homemade marshmallow, pineapple and profiteroles.

Surely this is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow?

8. Chocolate Lava Cake @ Peploe’s

Chocolate fondant, also known as chocolate lava cake, has to be the culinary equivalent of striking gold.

Peploe’s have truly nailed it, cut into their fluffy chocolate sponge cake and the molten chocolate centre oozes out. Served up with honeycomb ice cream that is both smooth and crunchy at the same time, this is perfection on a plate.

9. Chocolate Fudge Cake @ Queen of Tarts

We can’t talk about chocolate without mentioning the famous chocolate fudge cake from Queen of Tarts.

This velvety, decadent dessert is in a league of its own. The cake is made with Callebaut’s fine Belgian chocolate and you can taste the difference. The fresh sponge is fluffy and layered throughout with creamy, chocolate filling. Oh hello, heaven.
