Let's face it – eating out is expensive, especially for a nice 2 or 3-course meal. We all love a sit-down nice dinner now and then, and we can do it without breaking the bank, while still getting a taste of Dublin's finest. 

All it takes is a little kick in your step to get out the door earlier, and this list will take care of the rest. Dublin offers loads of high class restaurants with early-bird menus that you just can't pass up. 

Going with the early bird or pre-theatre option will often even give you a better variation of the menu, while saving a bit of cash for later.

1. Marcel's

This is the nicest spot for a bit of French dining made from your fresh, local ingredients. The inside has an elegant and contemporary feel, so put on your fancy clothes, and get there early to save a bit of cash.

2. Platform 61

Inspired by a New York abandoned underground platform under the famous Waldorf Astoria hotel, this spot will engulf you both with its location and delicious menu. It's both cosy and classy, and their early bird menu will make you want to start the night underground. The full a la carte menu is available (with a €5 supplement for steak), so choose wisely!

3. Whitefriar Grill

This place is almost always jammers – but for a good reason, sure enough. They serve up a wide range of lovely dishes, from rump steak with home fries to roast red pepper with provençale vegetables.

4. La Cave

Here's an impressive wine bar with a very decently priced early bird menu. We're talking a fisherman’s pie with salmon and smoked haddock paired with a baked goats cheese salad with apple honey and walnuts... for €17.50. They serve over 40 wines by the glass, so get here early and spend your extra quid on high quality wines of the world.

5. Beeftro

Here's a laid-back steakhouse in Dublin that knows their meat. The atmosphere is about as unique as the menu, and they pride themselves on having the highest of quality cuts around. The early bird menu offers not only a tender sirloin, but also chicken, salmon and a black angus cheeseburger.

    6. San Lorenzo's 

    If you're looking for a modern Italian, New York style cuisine to dine early, here's your place. There are several delicious starters to choose from, as well as authentic Italian pasta and meat options for your main.

    7. Coppinger Row

    Known for their Mediterranean plates, bold wines and eclectic cocktails, Coppinger Row is the perfect spot in town for some early bites and tasty drinks. The outdoor seating area is ideal, and there are are both healthy and hearty options on the menu to satisfy the masses.

    8. Union8

    Here's a new spot as of this year on South Circular Road that serves lunch, dinner and a Sunday brunch. The dishes look superb, and you'll get 'em for a decent price early on. Fancy a poached hake with wild garlic mash? Or a beef fillet with a side of duck fat chips?

    9. Opium

    Although one may think of Opium of being solely a nightlife destination, it's also a beautiful Pad Asian restaurant and cocktail bar with an unreal menu. Even the early bird menu is extremely extensive with Asian cuisine options, from a smoked trout salad to Singapore noodles.

    10. Metro Cafe

    Right on the corner of South William and Clarendon, here's the perfect spot to have a bite on their outdoor terrace early in the evening. They serve up the nicest bread and dips, as well as a couple tasty and filling stew options for you to choose from.
