It was announced ‘Best Gourmet Burger’ in Connacht and now it’s coming to Dublin.
You may remember a while back, our very own Alan and Éadaoin went on the search to find the best burger in Dublin.
They tried WOWBURGER, Bunsen and BuJo in that order and lots of people didn’t seem to agree with their marking scheme.
They gave WOWBURGER a 13/20 and Bunsen a 15 and some people argued that those scores showed have been bumped up or that other contenders (Farmer Browns and Five Guys to name but a few) should have been included.
But there was no mistake about who the winner would be before the contest even began.
Anyone who has had BuJo knew that it would blow the competition away and it’s no surprise that it ran out the clear winner with a massive score of 19/20.
And that would have been that until this massive news came through.
We held a Lovin Beef event in Galway during the summer.
Handsome Burger – which then resided in the premises of Caribou, a pub in Woodquay – was the location and everyone was raving on about their burgers.
The public couldn’t get over the juiciness and texture of the burgers, there wasn’t even a bit of a burger left on any plate to throw in the bin.
It was a scorching summer’s evening and this place was full before anyone even knew about the event.
And that was all down to the food.
We even asked them what their secret was but the lads behind the baps and beef refused to tell us on camera (or off the record for that matter).
We left Galway thinking that these lads should be mentioned in the same breath as your Bunsen’s, Box Burgers and Bobo’s and now, they’re finally getting their chance.
Handsome Burger will be at EatYard from 7th March every Thursday to Sunday each week until October and they will be chomping at the bit to prove their weight to all of Dublin.
They now have their own massive place on 49 Dominick Street Lower in Galway’s Westend that’s always packed to the gills but that wasn’t always the case.
Starting in 2016 as a street food stall by Rory McCormack and Cathal O’Connor, the Handsome Burger has matured nicely into an award winning eat.
They have grown into a team of 16 and are now placed in an area of Galway that is home to the best restaurants in the country.
The Handsome Burger established itself with Galwegians and visitors through pop up events, at local markets and catering to private functions.
The ethos of Handsome is like every good idea, very simple: they bring local, seasonal and flavour together.
They secured the title of best burger in the west for 2018 because of their Brady’s beef pattys, signature Handsome sauces and home roasted fries.
The perfect balance of meat, cheese and the secret sauce is all held together by a freshly baked Brioche bun.
The Handsome fries are triple fried in Rapeseed Oil, which allows them to have a fluffy interior and a beautiful crispy outer layer and this is before they are tossed in sea salt and rosemary.
We feel that Alan and Éadaoin might have to update that Best Burger challenge, but they must be prepared to hand out a perfect score because this is 20/20 all day long, no matter where in Ireland you are.
