We’re right sticklers for tradition here in Ireland – never more so than when it comes to old religious rituals.
And so, while the vast majority of the population has moved away from the Catholicism that used to define us, you’ll still find a disproportionate number of people tucking into fish dishes this evening – or at least steering clear of meat.
But what about the other Good Friday tradition?
The one that says booze is bad (despite the fact that Jesus literally manufactured the stuff), and we can all go a day without it in the circumstances…
Licensing laws are widely regarded as a little archaic in this regard – and there are ways around them, of course. But what are you going to do?
