These 8 Superfood Dishes Are Ideal For Your January Healthy Buzz

Sarah

January is a time of new beginnings.

Fresh starts, new calendars and heaps of #newyearnewme Facebook statuses. And number one of those pesky resolutions is always to eat a little cleaner.

Forgive us for not jumping at the chance to up our steamed broccoli intake but sometimes, eating clean can be a little daunting.

However, my friends, that was then and this is now.

With literally dozens of health food spots recently popping up all over Dublin, we are totally spoiled for choice and should seize the opportunity to give our bodies a belated Christmas present – they work pretty hard, you know.

Here are eight nourishing dishes that we’ll be treating ourselves to this January…

1. Vegan Salad, Counter Culture

The super-healthy Counter Culture makes eating healthily a real treat as their menu is packed full of colour and goodness.

We love their Vegan Salad, with pickled beets (pickled foods are great for your gut!), pomegranate, rocket, quinoa, chick peas and balsamic dressing.

2. Daily Salad Plate, Cornucopia

Not sure what you’re in the mood for? You have to try the Daily Salad Plate from Cornucopia, a nutritious combination of three fresh, homemade salads; always vegan-friendly, always gluten-free, and always wheat-free.

Favourites include the baked tofu, rice, arame, and scallion dressed in mirin and tamari, and the butter bean, roast pepper and baby spinach dressed in lemon and roast garlic.

3. Kimchi Zigae, Hophouse

Hophouse is a hidden gem specialising in Korean food dishes and has so much choice for healthy hot plates that you’ll want to order one of everything on the menu.

Get the Kimchi Zigae, a spicy stew of tofu and vegetables, with steamed rice and kimchi, the fermented super food that the whole world and their grannies are raving about.

4. Jamaican Jerk Salad, Staple Foods

The good folk at Staple Foods are alllll about great tasting meals that are actually satisfyingly filling too – the winning combo.

In their yummy Jamaican Jerk Chicken Salad, you will find sweet and spicy chilli jam (dairy-free and gluten-free), shredded vegetables, nuts, seeds, jerk chicken and to top it all off, the whole thing is served with rice, beans and a huge amount of guacamole.

5. Super Salad, Herbstreet

The buzzing brunch spot also does amazing healthy lunch options that won’t leave you jealous of your dining partner’s burger.

You have to order their Super Salad, which is a baby spinach and vegetable shoot salad with avocado, cashew nuts, goji berries and bee pollen, with the option of adding poached chicken, St. Tola’s goat cheese or our fave, swordfish loin. Delicious.

6. Turkey Burger, Balfes

Balfes recently joined forces with BodyByrne Fitness to create the ultimate health junkie’s breakfast and brunch menu – no more weekend gorging guilt.

Protein lovers should 100% get their turkey burger topped with guacamole, paprika sweet potato wedges, salsa & healthy coleslaw. Yes you read that right: healthy coleslaw. The dream.

7. Special Salad, Honest To Goodness

Honest To Goodness have made a name for themselves as one of the healthiest places to eat in the city centre, thanks to their weekly specials full of green goodness.

Keep an eye out for the fresh marinated salmon with a salad of green lentils, quinao, fresh red onion, sweet corn, rocket and feta cheese. Dressed with yoghurt and tiger milk (a Peruvian citrus-based marinade, don’tcha know) and topped with black beans.

8. Vietnamese Box, Cocu

Mega healthy (and mega tasty), Cocu has a nutritionally balanced menu that’s been dietitian approved, which basically means you can eat whatever you like from here and be in the clear.

They do fab salad boxes that you can customise to your liking, right down to what seeds are sprinkled on top. We love their Vietnamese Box, which has chicken, pickled carrot, coriander, cucumber and beansprouts, with brown rice and toasted sesame seeds on top.
