The Taoiseach Has Announced The Date And Details Of The Upcoming Election... On Twitter
We all thought there'd be a press conference
We all thought it was going to be a joint press conference with Tánaiste Joan Burton.
But instead, ol' Enda took a more modern approach to unveiling the date of the upcoming election – by tweeting out a video from his official account, shortly before 10am.
In it, he confirmed what we knew all along: that the upcoming General Election will take place on Friday, February 26.
I am seeking a dissolution of Dáil Éireann today with the election to be held on February 26th.https://t.co/R5JnwC3XFB— Enda Kenny (@EndaKennyTD) February 3, 2016
While the date will come as no surprise, it may come as something of a relief; there had been speculation that polling day would fall on a Thursday, making it difficult for several students and workers to vote in their home constituencies.
So. It begins.
