Looks like someone was getting ready for some heavy, heavy boozing for tomorrow’s festivities, as Revenue have seized more than 600 litres of smuggled alcohol from a truck at Dublin Port.
The haul, which includes 200 litres of beer and 408 litres of wine, had a retail value of over €6,700.
The truck was searched as part of an intelligence-led operation as it entered Dublin from Holyhead.
The seizure of alcohol represents a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €3,300, and Revenue are urging people who know someone who is evading tax or involved in smuggling, to report it by contacting Revenue’s Confidential Freephone 1800 295 295.
A man in his 40s was questioned in regards to the alcohol, and investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.
