It’s that time of week again where last weekend’s hangover has finally left us be – and we start thinking about what we’re (and our hearts, heads and feelings) are going to get stuck into this weekend.
Thus continuing the Circle of Life.
This weekend has loads going on, with activities suited to the faint-hearted and not so much. Food, drinks and fun – all you have to do is choose…
1. Dublin Quays Festival
Dublin Quays Festival is taking place for the first time from August 17 – 20 in several venues along the quays.
The venues are hosting a load of free gigs with some really worthwhile acts including Alison Spittle, Birds of Olympus, Maria Kelly and Kicking Bird.
And the best bit? It’s totally free.
2. Free Film Screening – I, Daniel Blake
I, Daniel Blake is a 2016 drama film directed by Ken Loach and written by Paul Laverty. It stars Dave Johns as Daniel Blake, who is denied employment and support allowance despite his doctor finding him unfit to work. Hayley Squires co-stars as Katie, a struggling single mother whom Daniel befriends.
The film won the Palme d’Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival and the Prix du public at the 2016 Locarno International Film Festival.
3. Alison Spittle Live Podcast
Returning to the Workman’s as part of the inaugural Dublin Quays Festival, The Alison Spittle Show is a live podcast recording, a “punk version of the most unpunk thing in the world” – the humble chat show.
Each month Alison talks to a special guest in front of a live audience (in association with Headstuff.org). Alison’s guests are comedian Shane Clifford and writer Aidan Comerford.
4. Batman Forever 90’s Knight
Like Batman? Miss the 90s? And enjoy wearing tights?
Then this is the perfect event for you.
Come bask in the neon glow of Joel Schumacher’s outrageously decadent BATMAN FOREVER and join the movie fanatics at The Lighthouse Cinema beforehand for a purple, pink and green-tinged Batman Forever party in their dreamy bar complete with themed cocktails and epic soundtracks.
Costumes appreciated and encouraged. Get your tickets right here.
5. DIP all day at Dolymount Park
Good tunes, fine dancing and a chance to support some local DJs/music makers in a totally Dublin setting. DIP all day at Dolymount Park kicks off at 4pm and goes on until late.
6. YogaHub Teacher Training Open Day
Keen to develop a new skill, and get bendy at the same time?
We’ve got just the thing.
YogaHub are hosting a Yoga Teacher Training Open Day – talking you through all there is to know about being the bendiest instructor in town. The practice will end with a Q & A with some of their teacher trainers.
7. And finally, The Core Project – Exhibition Launch
‘The Core Project’ exhibition is a large-scale installation featuring over 150 videos from participants across the globe, filmed live answering a question that they have not previously seen. By withholding the question, artist Matthew Nevin removes the participant’s ability to prepare, producing a series of natural and behavioural nuances within an international cultural context.
This interesting event is set to take place at Rua Red in Tallaght, from 2pm on Saturday.
Absolutely loads on.
Now all you have to do is choose…
