A group of local artists have launched a campaign to stop the “greying” of Dublin by painting over murals.
The local group, SUBSET, are angry about the removal of the Stormzy and the Maser Repeal the Eighth murals, among others.
Dublin City Councils said they broke planning rules, but the campaign believes the system governing the production of large format outdoor artwork is “unnecessarily complex”.
They are proposing a licensing system where public spaces can be used for art.
A video has been made to support the Grey Area campaign.
The group have said, “We want to transform Dublin into an open-air gallery, but primarily we want to assist in Ireland’s recognition as a cultural juggernaut.”
Do you think the murals should be allowed to stay? Let us know in the comments.
