A cyclist, a man in his 40s, was knocked off his bike at 12.45am this morning on Patrick St.

He was then brought to St James' Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the car was not injured, and a garda spokesperson has said to The Journal that “a garda investigation has begun into the crash and the scene of the incident was closed to facilitate an examination of the area by garda forensic collision investigators.

“Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact Kevin Street garda station on 01 666 9400.”
