Enda Kenny: “I’ll Invade The Pitch If Mayo Win The All-Ireland”

James Fenton

It seems like our dear leader can’t contain his excitement ahead of the Dublin and Mayo All-Ireland Final showdown on Sunday.

Earlier in the week, the Castlebar-born Taoiseach released this motivational video, firmly nailing his colours to the Mayo mast.

Now, according to the Irish Examiner, Kenny told reporters in Bratislava, where he is attending a summit of EU heads of state, that he has already planned his post-match celebrations should Mayo clinch their first Sam Maguire in 65 years.

“This Mayo team have not played as a team of conviction of winning to this point, but there’s one big game in them and I hope it’s on Sunday. When we win this one I’ll be the first to invade the pitch, 65 years is too long to wait. So we’re going to bring Sam home on Sunday.”

After Kenny’s comments, Gardaí are said to be considering reverting to this famous brainwave from 2008 to keep matchgoers off the pitch.
