Gardaí are investigating a hit and run traffic collision and an alleged assault on a man in his 40s, who has serious injuries after being deliberately run over and then attacked by a group of men.
The incident happened on Parnell Street at the junction of Hill Street in Dublin 1 at about 12.20am this morning.
Gardaí believe that the man was struck down by a green or blue coloured Audi saloon car, and witnesses also say that after running over the man, a number of men got out from this car and assaulted him, possibly with weapons.
The man was discovered with serious injuries following the incident and was taken by ambulance to The Mater Hospital.
