The annual Christmas tradition of Glen Hansard and other famous Irish musicians busking on Grafton Street is kicking off a little bit early this year in a lovely event to raise much-needed funds for The Simon Community.
18 Irish acts have come together to give Dubliners nine hours of live music on Ireland’s busiest shopping street this Saturday for the Simon Music Marathon, with top musicians busking from 10am-7pm.
Run in partnership with First Music Contact, performances will come from Chasing Felix, Curtis Walsh, Penrose, Ivan Nicolas, Dreaming of Jupiter, Floor Staff, The SilverStonz, The Strypes, The Klares, Birdwoman, Eoin Glackin, The Finns, Mekkan Ju, Delorentos, Alex Jordan and Company, Pursued by Dogs, Montauk Hotel and Fontaines DC.
Dublin Simon Community provide services to over 5,100 people in Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow and Meath who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Speaking about the event, John Sansome from the Dublin Simon Community said:
“This is a fantastic event to raise vital funds for homelessness at this very difficult time. We’re overwhelmed with the support from all the musicians, as well as the help of AIB, who have partnered with Visa to give their support to Simon this Christmas. We hope as many people can come down to support their marathon efforts on the 25th.
“We’ll have volunteer bucket shakers on the day, and to increase the fundraising effort, AIB are providing AIB Clover contactless donation devices, giving consumers the option of making contactless donations on the day.”
