Luas to face ‘significant’ disruption over bank holiday weekend with half of Red Line closed

Essential works are taking place along a large portion of the line.

From Saturday, May 2, until Monday, May 4, there will be no Luas service between Tallaght/Saggart and Heuston. Trams will only be fully operational between Heuston and The Point.

The reason for the closure has been cited as ‘essential engineering works’.

In place of the services, a bus serving affected stops will run every 15 minutes with some restrictions. 

Passengers travelling between Tallaght/Saggart and Heuston in both directions will need to change buses at the Red Cow Luas Stop.

Tram operations will be back to normal on Tuesday, May 5.

"Passengers are advised that significant service changes will be in place on the Luas Red Line over the May Bank Holiday weekend, from Saturday 2 May to Bank Holiday Monday 4 May 2026, due to essential engineering works being carried out by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII)."

Additionally,  there will also be service limitations on Sunday, May 3, due to the Dublin City Half Marathon.

On bank holiday Monday, Luas will operate a Sunday timetable.

Red Line services will run only between Heuston and The Point until end of service, and a multi-agency exercise at Belgard on Monday morning means no trams will stop there during that time.

Passengers are strongly encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

Below are the following operation adjustments:

Luas Red Line

• From 7:00: Bus service operates to Heuston only. No tram service between Heuston and The Point until approximately 9:45am.
• From 9:45 (approx.): Tram service resumes between Heuston and Connolly only to facilitate the marathon finish on Guild Street.
• From 14:00: Full tram service resumes between Connolly and The Point.

Luas Green Line

• 7:00 – 9:30: No tram service between St Stephen’s Green and Dominick.
• Trams will operate from Brides Glen to St Stephen’s Green and Broombridge to Dominick.
