People In Dublin Are Actually “Renting Friends” For As Much As €40 An Hour

Have you ever been stuck in on a Saturday night with no one to go sip cocktails with you in a glam bar and take loadsa Instagrams? Do you desperately need a running buddy, or even someone to have the odd coffee with when your other mates are busy?

You might be intrigued to know that hundreds of Dubliners are now “renting friends” from a little as €8 an hour to as much as €40 an hour.

Rent A Friend is an American website that allows people to sign up to either be a friend, or else hire a friend.

It states that it’s strictly a platonic Friendship website, and is NOT an escort or any other sort of sexual site… People just wanna hang out, right?

A quick browse for friends in Dublin yielded over 150 profiles of potential BFFs

You could go see a movie with Michael, aged 31 from Mountjoy who enjoys politics and true crime books, or simply have a chat with Anna (25), whose profile says she’s a great listener. 

Bizarre, or genius?
