Hands up who’s guilty of charging their electrical devices in bed, all snuggled up with the cable snaking under the covers?
We’re pretty sure a good 98% of the nation (including our shamefaced selves) do exactly that.
But a recent warning by Dublin Fire Brigade however, has made us change our ways and realise the serious potential dangers of charging phones or laptops near anything flammable.
They tweeted a thermal image of devices plugged into electrical sockets, demonstrating the shocking heat levels that they rise to, with the image in question showing the device at a temperature of 24 degrees Celsius.
Small experiment using a thermal imaging camera. Hope it helps you understand why not to charge devices on beds/furniture or cover them. pic.twitter.com/euEHPGh1mI

The blurry white patch on the right of the device shows the heat left behind from it charging on a wooden table, so you can only imagine the danger of soft flammable materials heating up.
DFB recommend that people charge all devices on a hard or wooden surface.
