It’s been reported that RTÉ pays its top staff over €3.6 million every single year, despite reports that the national broadcaster confirmed a loss of nearly €20 million in 2016 just last week.
According to figures released to Dublin Live, 24 of the broadcaster highest earners staff make between €150,001 and €250,000 annually – a gross cost of between €3.6m and €6m to the taxpayer.
As of December 31, 2015 – it was reported that the average salary in the Donnybrook workplace was €57,564.
This follows controversy reporting that RTÉ pays their male presenters far more than their female counterparts. The latest example of this is a Sunday Independent report stating that newsreader Sharon Ni Bheolain earns ”€60,000-€80,000 per year less than her co-anchor Bryan Dobson”.
In a statement last night, a spokesperson for RTÉ said to Independent.ie:
“RTÉ salaries and fees take into account a wide range of factors including levels of experience, length of service and range of duties or programming a person is involved in. RTÉ does not comment on individual staff salaries.”
