Sorry Dubliners but we’ve got to hand it to Cork, they’ve officially got the best street in Ireland and the UK.
Oliver Plunkett Street in Cork was given the Great Street Award 2016 at the Urbanism Awards Ceremony in London yesterday afternoon.
The street was shortlisted with two other streets, one from London and one from Liverpool.
According the the Evening Echo, the street was visited by two judges in August. Geoff Haslam, the lead assessor, said:
It’s fair to say that we have been overwhelmed by Oliver Plunkett Street today… It offers everything that we are looking for in a Great Street, and more. We sometimes have to search for the DNA of a street, but Oliver Plunkett Street exudes it – it’s a vibrant living street and community, full of surprises and it is clearly on an upward trajectory.
Fair play, Cork. Fair play.
