This Was Al Porter’s Take On Sex Scandals – Before Allegations Came Out Against Him

Hot Press has released a new interview with Al Porter which was carried out before allegations surfaced about his ‘inappropriate behaviour’.

The comedian and presenter has resigned from his Today FM show and will no longer perform in the Olympia Theatre Christmas panto.

When asked about the issue of sex scandals in the entertainment industry, he said we are at a “watershed moment culturally where what is seen as decent and acceptable behaviour is going to change”.

When it came to the idea of groping someone without their consent, he added: “I don’t care how provocatively a woman dresses, or how late at night she arranged to have a business meeting with you. Or whether it was in your hotel room or not. If you’re grabbing her and she doesn’t want it, you’re in the wrong.”

The Tallaght native also said he didn’t agree with allegations against people being posted on social media.

“Trial by media isn’t a good thing,” he said.

“We also still have to rely on the fact that if you have been abused or assaulted you should be able to trust the Gardai? to investigate it on your behalf and for justice to prevail.”

Finally, on the use of the #metoo hashtag, he said: “What I would be worried about is that #metoo drags people into that group that don’t belong in it.

“I know that might sound like I’m defending these people but I’m not.”
