Gardaí arrested two men early on Monday morning after an aggravated robbery at The Schoolhouse Hotel on Northumberland Road in the city.

Dublin Live reports that a 20-year-old porter was hospitalised after being badly beaten during the incident. The man was assaulted before the assailants gained access to the safe and made off with some property in the direction of Mount Street.

The pair were intercepted by Gardaí and taken to Irishtown Garda station.

A Garda spokesperson said:

"Two males entered the premises, confronted and assaulted a member of staff before taking some property and leaving in the Mount Street direction.
