Almost 20,000 people have hit the streets today to run the Dublin City Marathon – a staggering 40.5km trek around Dublin.
And for the first time in the marathon’s history it’s taking place on a Sunday to attract more European and international runners. So there’s a lot more bodies on the ground today.
Road closures for the marathon began two nights ago – there have been disruptions and barriers in place since Friday.
The Dublin Marathon course is spread out over all four Dublin council zones but, naturally, the city centre will be the epicentre of traffic chaos.
Merrion Square North has been closed since Friday evening and will remain closed until tomorrow evening, Monday, as this is where the finish line is.

As for public transport:
Dublin Bus are warning customers that real time bus information will be out of service today, and over 20 routes will be affected by the marathon – you can see the full list here.
While Luas services should be running as per usual Sunday service.
Even Dublin Bikes will be affected, but only slightly. The stations at both Merrion Square and Fitzwilliam Square will be closed all weekend.
All diversions will be in place until the roads have been reopened by Gardaí. The marathon is due to finish at 4.30pm but it could be some time before normal traffic routes are resumed.
