Work To Start On Dedicated Detention Area For Those Deported In Dublin Airport

Construction is set to be this September on a detention centre at Dublin Airport dedicated specifically to citizens due to be deported.

Until now, those without correct paperwork were simply placed in the prisons of the country. 

Ireland has previously faced criticism over the lack of such facilities – with foreign embassies questioning as to why members of their States have been thrown in with convicted criminals.

According to the Irish Times, former Justice Minister, Frances Fitzgerald, informed the Dáil this time last year that the centre could be ready in July of this year. 

A Department of Justice official informed the paper that work is due to begin this September, with an opening date penned for sometime next year.
