If you're anything like us, your morning cup of coffee is the only thing that stands between you and an arrest for grievous bodily harm against the 'slow walkers' on the way to work.
Unfortunately, it appears our tried and testing daily routine might not be the best idea in the world.
A new survey by ASAP Science has found that early in the morning could be the worst time to indulge our espresso habit as it coincides with the release of hormone cortisol into the body.
Cortisol makes the body alert and awake but if your system gets used to a daily caffeine pick-me-up, it can slow down production of the hormone – making you more reliant on coffee.
As a result, you'll soon need to be ordering a triple-shot to get any kind of a buzz from your beverage.
Don't panic though, all is not lost – coffee fans can beat the system by having their cuppa at a time when their cortisol levels are lower.
According to the experts, the best time for a boost is between 10am and noon in the morning and between 2pm and 5pm in the evening.
Phew, just in time for the 3pm slump!
