Let’s face it, when it comes to flavour that packs a punch, the Deep South is where it’s at.
We’ve teamed up with Fire & Smoke to take you on a foodie tour of six Southern US states. We’ll be bringing you some tasty treats and helping you to recreate them at home.
Today we’re turning our attention to wonderful Missouri, and this ridiculously tasty pizza recipe.
Missouri
Missouri boasts a wide mix of cultures and cuisines, thanks to its historical role as a gateway for migrants heading west. Missouri food is a mix of different cultures, with the Native Americans’ beans, squash and corn complementing its infamous Spanish-style BBQ sauces. Potatoes and sausages, which had been introduced by Germans settlers, also form an important part of the cuisine of Missouri.
Missourians have a reputation that precedes them for being friendly and open people, who enjoy excellent music and good food.
Along the state’s eastern and western borders are its two main cities: St Louis and Kansas City. The influx of various ethnic groups helped create the two cities’ reputations for jazz, blues and, our personal favourite, BBQ.
Keeping up the Missourian tradition of colliding cultures, today we’re showing you how Southern and Italian cuisine can work together beautifully with this Deep South Style Pizza with Fire & Smoke Missouri Style Chipotle Ham Shavings.
