Dublin isn’t short of top quality delis, but the latest deli on the scene is a most welcome addition serving up all sorts of delicious snacks, breakfasts, lunches and posh ready meals with a twist.

Deli 97 in Ranelagh opened recently and I decided to pop in last week to check it out. As soon as you walk in you can tell it’s brand new as most of the stock shelves are a bit sparse. However that’s not to say that the place doesn’t have plenty of delicious food to choose from. Deli 97 had a huge range of sandwiches packed with tasty fillings, goats cheese tarts, spring rolls and fancy homemade convenience meals. You’ll notice that many things on offer are more exciting compared to your usual deli- you can expect to see things like sweet potato and quinoa fritters, salad that comes with beetroot meringues and duck confit tarts.

I visited early in the morning and decided to pick up breakfast. They had the usual pastries, coffees and smoothies as well as a few healthy options. I picked up a pot of their overnight oats, which is a type of bircher muesli. The soaked oats were mixed with yoghurt and some fresh orange pieces, it was really tasty and definitely the healthy boost I needed after a late night. It cost €3.95 but the tub was colossal and I only managed to eat half. Overnight oats last a few days though so you could easily get two breakfasts out of it.

They had tonnes of incredible looking lunch options so I decided to pick up a salad to take away for later in the day and went for a mix of salads with a small round of goats cheese and a beetroot panna cotta. I love panna cotta but have only ever tried the sweet kind laced with vanilla, sugar and cream so was intrigued to try a savoury beetroot version. Despite being one of the most random sounding options on offer, it was one of the tastiest things I’ve tried in a long while, it was really smooth with a nice little burst of beetroot flavour from the jelly on top. The sandwiches looked great too so I’ll definitely be going back to try one of them soon.

They had a nice selection of freshly prepared ready meals like beef bourguignon which would be perfect for lazy nights after work. This is definitely a place to put on your list if you’re living in D6.
