1916 REWIND: There’s A HUGE Demonstration Happening Around Sackville Street Right Now – So You Might Want To Steer Clear

josefoshea

All this week we’re bringing the 1916 Rising to life as it happened with historical reports from the fateful week, day by day and hour by hour. For more reports, see 1916 Live.

11am, Easter Monday

If you were thinking of heading in to the city centre for a Bank Holiday stroll you might want to give it a miss – there seems to be some sort of big demonstration down around the Quays and Sackville Street.

We are seeing a LOT of tweets about demonstrators gathering around Blackhall Place and down near Liberty Hall, and it looks like the Volunteers (familiar now to Dubs from their regular route marches and exercises in the Phoenix Park) are staging some sort of action in the city centre.

The Dublin Metropolitan Police are starting to tweet updates so keep an eye on @DubMetPolTraffic if you are thinking of going into the city.

Here’s what those on the scene are saying

And they are in full uniform. So while it’s too early to say exactly what’s going on, it seems the Vols are out in force and are planning something big for this Easter Monday.
