Which Dublin street has a river running underneath it? Which city library is said to be haunted?
These are the sorta things that not even born and bred Dubliners know about, and there’s plenty more interesting facts about our city, yet we’re pretty sure that a trip on the Dublin Hop On Hop Off Bus isn’t something many locals have done.
And why the heck not? The latest trend in fact, among travel bloggers, is to be a “tourist in your own city”, and once you think about it it makes SO much sense.
No queuing at the airport, no expensive hotel stay or confusion over map directions – the best way to start exploring the world is by exploring your own city first.
And the Dublin Hop On Hop Off Bus is the perfect way to do just that.
And there’s a few fun facts we bet you never knew…
- Their tour guides are real Dub experts…
Dublin Bus tour guides are all born and bred Dubliners, who know the city better than anyone (perfect for a real authentic Dublin tour!) and they’re all Fáilte Ireland trained too, meaning they’re the best in the biz.
- The hop on hop off bus travels insane distances
They drive a massive 350,000 kilometres per year – that’s the equivalent of driving around Phoenix Park over 30,000 times!
- As for the most popular bus stop?
It’s Stephens Green to hop on, and the Guinness Storehouse to get off.

- The drivers have 500 years of experience!
Yep, their drivers have half a millennium of combined experience. Impressive, huh?
- You can discover the darker side of Dublin’s past
Their spooky Ghostbus tour transports you into a world of ghostly happenings, comedy horror, and terrifying history – the Ghostbus will drive you into your nightmares taking in some of the city’s most haunting sights along the way.
- And you might just spot a local celeb on board…
Famous people on board have included Katie Taylor, The Dubs when they won the Sam Maguire (fingers crossed there’ll be a repeat of this!), Bernard Dunne, and Gabriel Byrne. You never know who you’ll meet on the top deck.
Are you ready to make the most of Dublin yet? We know what we’ll be doing this weekend – with over 30 stops along the tour, it’s just a matter of choosing where to hop off, go for a wander, and hop back on again towards the next destination.
Bagsy the open air deck seats for the best view! Visit their website for more info – or check out their Facebook page.
