1. Le Petit Commerce

This iconic bistro is as unmissable as it is inspired, with dining rooms both sides of a narrow pedestrian street and former Michelin-starred chef Stéphane Carrade captaining the squad. 

Located in the trendy St-Pierre quarter, Le Petit Commerce is best known for its excellent seafood menu that embraces everything from the briny deep, fresh from the waters of St Jean de Luz.

End your meal, in true Bordeaux fashion, with a bowl of riz au lait à l'orange (orange-perfumed rice pudding).

2. Magasin Général

Magasin Général boasts the hippest clientele in town.

One of France's biggest and best organic restaurants is located across the Garonne, and is fully kitted out with an enormous terrace, complete with comfy couches and a ping-pong table.

Everything that passes your lips here is totally organic and sourced locally. And if you're hanging around the day after the match, their Sunday brunches are gargantuan feasts.

3. Chez Meme

A favourite with locals and tourists alike, Chez Meme boasts a fantastic menu filled with perfectly prepared and very fresh fish, beef carpaccio to die for, and some of the best duck in the whole of Bordeaux. 

But the best part of all? It's very reasonably priced, meaning you won't have to remortgage the house to experience the best of the best.

4. Le Cheverus 

The ever-energetic cafe that is Le Cheverus boasts an atmosphere that is never dull. The buzzing neighbourhood bistro has an interior made up of retro decor and metal chairs, giving a kitschy feel to the already admirably Parisienne vibe. 

The food is home-cooked and experimental, mixing classics like steak tartare and hamburger à cheval (not a horse burger FYI, but a beef burger with an egg on top – thankfully) with light salads and vegetarian dishes.

5. Potato Head

Boasting an eclectic and mismatching array of seating, moss-clad vegetal wall and industrial-style lighting, this trendy eatery is located right in the heart of Bordeaux and is an unforgettable space to dine in. 

Add to the mix a creative kitchen known for surprise combos (foie gras, beetroot, ginger and chocolate, anyone?) and the finest summer garden in the city and, well, you've got yourself a good night planned.

Potato Head's Sunday brunch, priced at just €24, is situated in the garden and is an out-of-body experience.

6. Maison du Vin

When in France, drink as the French drink.

Maison du Vin is exactly what is says on the tin, a house of win. Backed by a co-op of local vineyards, this place is perfect for anyone wanting an inexpensive variety of the wines of Bordeaux – even people who have no idea what they are doing.

Smack bang in the centre of the city, opposite the Opera House – and half an hour in a taxi from the stadium. Find it on Google Maps here.

7. La Tupina

La Tupina ('kettle' in Basque) is constantly and consistently filled with the aromas of warm and delicious cooking, boding well for the hungry customer fresh off the back of a win.

This iconic bistro celebrates all aspects of seasonal southwestern French fare: think foie gras and egg cassoullette (mini casserole), milk-fed lamb, tripe and goose wings. This is where the people of Bordeaux eat – and according to them La Tupina have on their menu the best chips in the whole world.
