katedemolder

Resolution Day is NYF Dublin‘s way of introducing you to 2016 in style, bringing a host of fun activities to help you kick start the year, focusing on fun, fitness and mental wellbeing.

Enjoy anything and everything from music to talks to whiskey tasting – a great way to kick start the new year, with something deadly for everyone to enjoy.

1. Handel’s Messiah

All are welcome to this on-street performance of a lifetime.

Our Lady’s Choral Society will join forces with The Dublin Handelian Orchestra for a free performance of Handel’s Messiah and other works at Parnell Square (in front of the Hugh Lane Gallery) on New Year’s Day, conducted by none other than Proinnsías Ó Duinn.

Hallelujah indeed.

2. New Year’s Day 5K Run

What a way to dust off the cobwebs and break in your trendy new running shoes than a 5km fun run! Let the Tom Brennan Memorial 5K Run be the first of your resolutions to be smashed in the new year and meet hundreds of others in Phoenix Park at 12pm. A reason to be smug until 2017, if not longer.

3. Children Storytelling & Art Workshop

Experienced storyteller, artist and workshop facilitator Paul Timoney has created a bespoke workshop for children aged 6-12 around the themes explored in the wildly popular Pixar film Inside Out

Attendees will accompany Paul on his adventure exploring the vast landscape of emotion, while the children will be enlisted to help create art to assist in the telling of the tale. This workshop is designed to encourage children to learn to express themselves verbally or through creative means.

4. Flying South

Flying South is a mental health-themed open mic event that showcases a huge range of performers, united by a common theme of creative mental health expression, every month in Dublin.

Aiming to provide a safe, understanding space for people to share their experiences, the first Flying South of 2016 will kick start New Year’s Day with a host of honest, insightful and moving performers. As well as featured acts, there will be an open mic section for anyone who would like to share their own work.

5. Proclamation

Mental health has always been a matter of great importance, but for many it remains a matter we are reluctant to discuss publicly.

As Ireland enters a year of celebration, a host of well-known faces will gather in Christ Church to proclaim 2016 as the year when we shine a light on that secret. In association with First Fortnight, join NYF Dublin for an inspirational evening of talk and music as a host of passionate speakers issue their own proclamations for our future wellbeing.

Join familiar faces Eoghan McDermott, Diarmuid Gavin, Mary McEvoy and many more talk about the struggles in their pasts and wishes for the future.
