Beer Parachuted Into Your Hand At Festivals, Burrito Drops From The Sky – Why Drones Are Amazing

There’s a piece of technology that’s changing the world, and we don’t even know it’s happening.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Nope… it’s a drone. And whether it’s ecommerce deliveries to your doorstep, beautiful sweeping landscape photography or sporting espionage, there seems to be no end to the ways in which enterprising and creative folks are using these machines to their advantage – particularly in the field of events.

But don’t take our word for it… here’s a few cracking examples from around the world.

Sport

The Republic of Ireland take on Northern Ireland in a friendly later on this month, reawakening one of the great old rivalries of the international game. However, if you’re looking forward to watching Martin O’Neill’s men doing battle with their neighbours, you’ll be disappointed – the game is being held in ‘secret’. Will that really stop determined fans from flying over the Aviva to take a sneak peek? It’s illegal to fly them in urban areas, but it’s hard to get in the way of a determined footie fan…

Moving from the illegal use to the potential use, can you imagine how amazing a match would be to watch if drones were filming it? Obviously the choreography of it would be insane but hopefully someday it will happen. Pepsi came close enough, though, with this video – in which a drone serves as the ref:

In the meantime extreme sports are benefiting from the incredible aerials that only drones can give – particularly as individual sports are easier to follow. It’s a well publicised use for this kind of filming, but it sure does look good…

Music Events

Organisers at Coachella Festival are using a drone cam this year, which is a really interactive way of getting that crowd feel up on the big screens. It’s one of the best ways to capture mood, the scale of the event, and it’s also an excellent way to get a unique angle on the performers on stage.

Here’s a great video of Burning Man, again proving the point that a drone can really convey atmosphere and space.

Beer & Burritos

Festivals are great; queuing for beer at a festival is not. And waiting up to one hour for a drink, whilst fighting the urge to give up and go to the loo, is really not great.

Stepping in to save the day is the drone – a festival in South Africa experimented with beer drops from little parachutes. They just synched it up to your GPS location, and within moments your beer arrived straight into your hand – how cool is that?

Meanwhille, some entrepreneurial souls in The States have come up with a business called the Burrito Bomb. Exactly like the beer idea, the Burrito Bomb drops you your food wherever you may be.

Someone in Ireland needs to do the same for a bag of chippies… mmm, parachuted chippies.

Drone Film Festival

In New York this year they had their first-ever drone film festival, proving that these machines are in the ascendancy (sorry) as a creative medium.

Anyone fancy kicking off one of these in Ireland? We do, after all, boast some of the best drone videos in the world thanks to our stunning scenery – it seems like a good fit to us!

Let’s finish out with love. Weddings are big business – especially when it comes to photography. It’s also a competitive business for photographers and videographers, so any extra advantage they can take will help them win business.
