Best Places For A Picnic In Dublin

Lovin' Media

What is so great about our city is that we have all the hustle and bustle that any urban centre has, but among that we have some stunning green spaces that make for a gorgeous picnic. We really are spoilt for choice.

And since it’s summer, you should definitely pack the basket, grab your blankets and enjoy a stunning picnic in some of the nicest spaces in Dublin. Here are some of our top picks for places to do just that.

1. Iveagh Gardens

Being one of the most picturesque parks in the city, this green space on Clonmel Street is ideal for a picnic on a Summer’s day in Dublin.

Complete with fountains and a rosarium, Iveagh Gardens makes for a super romantic setting for your picnic.

2. Dollymount Strand

This northside beach is such an underrated picnic spot. With views of the city to the south, having a picnic on this 5km long beach means you definitely won’t be short of stunning views. It’s also super nice as the sun sets over the sand dunes.

3. Howth

Being one of the prettiest seaside towns in Dublin and in Ireland, Howth has loads of different spots to sit down and have a picnic.

Situated just minutes away from the pier, Balscadden Bay Beach is a stunning little gem hidden away between the cliffs of Howth, and you’d often find you have the whole beach to yourself.

To get spectacular views while you’re enjoying your picnic, there’s a spot along the Howth Cliff Walk where you can stop and chill while looking out to the Irish Sea.

4. Bushy Park

This Terenure park is a great park to head for a picnic because there is plenty to do and see before and after your picnic.

You can stroll along the paved walkway by the River Dodder, trek along the woodland walks, and if you decide to go on a Saturday, you can have a gander around the market between 10am and 4pm.

But for when you’re actually sitting down and having your picnic, there are loads of open spaces to throw down your blanket and chill for a few hours.

5. Along The Canal

This is hands down one of the best places in the city to spend a sunny evening.

When we have good weather it does be fairly packed. But that only adds to the amazing atmosphere. Everyone is just out to have the craic while the sun is setting.
