The warm tingle of sunshine on your skin, the cooling effect of the moisture-laden breeze, the salty smell of the air — it’s no wonder everyone loves the seaside.
Summer is all about finding an excuse to make your way to the coast, catching some rays and reminding yourself why life is simply magnificent.
But we don’t just want you to have a good time at the seaside, we want you to have an epic time.
To do that, you need to be strategic. You can’t just hop in the car and hope for the best, oh no!
Let us show you how it’s done…
1. Check the weather
It may seem like a glorious day outside that window, but it’s important to remember that this is Ireland and literally anything can happen in meteorological terms — more like meteor-illogical, am I right?
To give yourself some peace of mind, check your go-to weather websites to be as sure as you can be that the sunshine outside of the window isn’t going anywhere.
Then and only then, can you starting compiling the seaside essentials…
2. The essentials
Before you can even think about how to have an epic seaside day out, you need to make sure you’ve got all the basics covered.
Here is the checklist of your absolute essentials:
- Suncream
- Sunglasses
- Hat
- Swimwear
- Multiple towels for drying and lying upon
- Sandals
Once you have all those, you’re basically prepared for a good day at the beach.
However, we’re trying to give you an epic day at the beach, so we’ve still got some work to do.
3. Tunes
It’s an undeniable fact of life that epic days require epic tunes.
To create a real party atmosphere, take your mates to a secluded little seaside spot where you won’t bother anyone, break out a portable speaker and throw your own little beach party.
Ibiza eat your heart out.
4. Refreshments
The better the beach, the more isolated it is, so you’re probably going to be ages away from someplace that you can get food and drinks, so stocking up is crucial.
Make absolutely sure that you’re full to the brim with your favourite sambos and ice pops.
A cooler filled with ice is essential to keeping those bottles of water chilled to perfection — the ultimate luxury on a sweltering summer’s day.
5. Furniture
To really make yourself at home on the seaside, you need to make it as comfortable as possible.
We’re talking beach chairs, parasols, a cooler filled with ice, and, our personal favourite, a wind breaker.
Trust us, a good wind breaker is a huge part of an epic day out on by sea, affording you some much-needed privacy when it comes to disrobing as keeping that pesky sand from blowing into your face when you’re trying to lie down.
Also, it’s a socially acceptable way for a grown adult to play forts.
6. Playthings
Hey, adults needs toys too.
We’re talking about footballs, frisbees and swingball, bring ’em along for a day of craic that you’re not likely to forget.
You have our full permission to release your inner kid while at the seaside.
