If you’re anything like us, you love a big ol’ juicy burger on occasion — but you may be ordering it wrong.
According to safefood, the all-island health body for food safety, there are serious risks of food poisoning associated with burgers cooked medium or medium rare.
This is because food poisoning bacteria E.coli may be present and dispersed throughout the minced beef of a burger patty and, if it’s undercooked, that bacteria can do real damage to your health.
While most people who get food poisoning will recover relatively quickly, food poisoning from E.coli can cause severe long-term complications affecting your blood and kidneys.
That’s a risk that’s really not worth taking.
According to safefood, to avoid this danger you should always be ordering your burgers well done — no exceptions.
So if you’re eating at a burger joint and sharing burger pics on Instagram over the next few weeks, don’t be surprised if you get a message from @burger_fever, reminding you to order your patty well done.
This may come as unwelcome news for those who love their burgers red but, trust us, a well-cooked burger beats food poisoning any day.
