Oh Dear – Banks Offering Loans Of €30,000 For Fans Travelling To The Euros In 2016

We’ve passed all the qualifiers, we’ve gotten our group and now the real planning starts for football fans across the nation…

With thousands expected to travel to France to support Ireland in the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament, AIB are offering loans up to €30,000 for fans wishing to attend.

The average credit union loan for the same tournament in Poland in 2012 was between €3,000 and €4,000, according to the Irish Independent. Granted, the Irish games will take place in Paris, Lille and Bordeaux so there will be a bit of travelling involved, but hardly €30,000 worth?

Offering such a large, and wholly unnecessary figure seems like a very reckless move on AIB’s part. These kind of loans have a bang of the boom times off them, and we’d be very foolish to fall into that trap again…
