Chocolate is happiness — this much we know.
I’m a fan of chocolate, as I’m a normal human being, and I find myself often going out of my way to seek out our city’s most indulgent treats.
My research has been long and arduous, but I’ve always been a dedicated person.
If you, like me, enjoy putting chocolate in your mouth, then I daresay you might find this list a bit useful.
1. Cocoa Atelier — Chocolate éclair
Should you be in the mood for chocolate of the classy variety.
The Drury Street shop deals in handmade sweeties, and these particular treats are exceedingly popular. Filled with chocolate crème patissiere, you’ll be hard pushed not to roll your eyes in pure ecstasy after taking one bite.
Or maybe that was just me.
2. Accents — Snickers cake
We all know how good Snickers are in bar form, but have tried them in cake form? If not, your life has been missing something really quite special.
We come to Accents for the cosiness, but we stay for this cake.
3. Sweet Republic — Kinder/Nutella cake
This Sweet Republic cake is the very definition of bold, but that’s why we love it so.
This is a chocolate cake lined with small Kinder bars, topped with Kinder Buenos, and drizzled in Nutella.
So wrong, yet so very right.
4. Butler’s Chocolate Café — Chocolate Temptation Cake
You feel like a kid in a candy store when you walk into a Butler’s — but you’re actually an adult in a chocolate café.
It’s a toughie choosing just one of their treats, but if it must be one, we’d recommend the Chocolate Temptation Cake.
It’s well named.
5. The Leonidas Chocolate Shop — Milk Chocolate Assortment
Another shop devoted entirely to chocolate.
Here we’d recommend the Milk Chocolate Assortment box, including fresh butter creams, ganaches with fresh cream, pralines and soft caramel centres.
Available from four locations in Dublin, it’s easy to get your hands on one of these treasure chests.
6. Dublin Cookie Co. — Peanut butter chocolate chip cookie dough
Ever watched people in movies eat raw cookie dough and think to yourself, “dear God, I’d love to get my hands on that stuff”.
We recommend you get down to the Dublin Cookie Co. on Thomas Street and follow your dreams immediately.
7. The Cupcake Bloke — Rocky Road
We’re big fans of The Cupcake Bloke round these parts so it’s hard to pick just one piece of confectionary from their selection but, since we have to, we’re going with their Rocky Road.
Chocolate biscuit cake + Marshmallows + Pistachios = Bliss
8. San Lorenzo’s — Coco Pops French Toast
Something that needs to be tasted to be believed.
With salt caramelised bananas, peanut butter, mascarpone whipped cream and Belgian chocolate sauce, it doesn’t get much more indulgent than this bad boy.
9. Camerino — Brownies
This place’s brownie game is ridiculous.
Camerino’s award-winning brownies are rich, fudgey, and they come in a variety of flavours: chocolate raspberry cheesecake, chocolate fudge, and peanut butter.
Peanut butter brownies FTW.
10. Antoinette’s Bakery — Chocolate biscuit cake
Who likes their chocolate bicky cake with thick milk chocolate and chunky biscuit?
That was, of course, a rhetorical question, because the answer is obviously everyone.
It’s also what you’ll find at Antoinette’s Bakery.
11. P. Macs’s — Kinder Bueno spring roll
Because anything can be made decadent with the addition of Kinder deliciousness.
If you venture inside P. Mac’s on Stephen Street Lower you’ll discover this wondrous dish, which is made up of Kinder Bueno bars wrapped in a thin filo pastry and fried.
This is one of the best desserts Dublin has to offer, so get it into ya Cynthia.
