Dublin GAA Chief Executive Reveals Actual Truth About All-Ireland Winning Dubs

Darragh Berry

The Dublin GAA team have been unstoppable over the last three years and with invincibility comes questions and rumours and this Dublin team have been subject to a lot of talk over the years.

Well, Dublin GAA chief executive John Costello has finally answered all the criticism and talk that has been aimed at Jim Gavin and his Dublin three-in-a-row team.

According to The 42, he has released his annual report and has responded to the “issues and inaccuracies” that have arose particularly since Dublin’s final win against Mayo in 2017 and feel that some critics are only issuing the harsh statements to draw in some easy cash.

“Dublin teams, especially senior football ones, are well used to the cut and thrust of media analysis and scrutiny, successful ones even more so.

“These conceited Dubs might be liked by some but they’ll never be loved; these unpatriotic Dubs they should be forced to surrender the GPO!

“For example have a go at the Dubs, then sit back, get invited as a paid guest onto various radio shows etc – kerching, cha-ching, cha-ching, kerching,” Costello said.

The main points from his statement are that:

  • Dublin is a united county – it won’t be split into two or four teams.
  • Boss Jim Gavin has his full support and is the “true leader” that Dublin need despite media speculation and also stated that his short interviewing style towards the media is fine by him – “Jim does not see his first priority as Dublin manager to provide a ‘Turn Down’ service for the media.”
  • The senior teams (hurling and/or football) have meals delivered to their homes on a daily basis or ever in fact. UNTRUE.
  • The senior teams are given five-star, ‘all-expenses paid’ treatment. UNTRUE.
  • The squad did not snub the International Rules trip to Australia but instead, the players that were asked for unable to make the journey due to work, injury or other club commitments.

Now, that all of that is cleared up, we assume that Jim Gavin, John Costello and the whole Dublin team will be focusing on winning a fourth All-Ireland title in a row.
